- Second Stage: The second stage begins once the cervix is fully dilated at 10 cm and lasts until the delivery of the baby. This stage can be further divided into two parts:
- Descent: The fetus moves down through the birth canal.
- Expulsion: With effective maternal pushing efforts during contractions, the baby is delivered.
- Third Stage: The third stage occurs after the birth of the baby and involves delivering the placenta. This stage typically lasts from a few minutes up to half an hour. Uterine contractions help detach and expel the placenta from its attachment site in the uterus.
